Mission  of Edible Landscapes of Yamhill County

To promote, educate and encourage personal and community organic edible gardens in Yamhill County

GOALS of Edible Landscapes of Yamhill County are to create: 

  • Gardens that alleviate global warming, 
  • Gardens that creates food access and equity 
  • Gardens that support sustainability 
  • Gardens that promote healthy living, and, 
  • Gardens that beautify our communities. 

How do Edible Landscape gardens help alleviate global warming and benefit a Community?
Community and individual gardens:

  • Help improve air and soil quality 
  • Increase biodiversity of plants and animals 
  • Reduce “food miles” that are required to transport nutritious food 
  • Reduce soil erosion and degradation 
  • Can reduce neighborhood waste through composting 

In addition to helping the climate, edible gardens also: 

  •  Increase access to fresh foods
  • Improve food security 
  • Increase physical activity through garden maintenance activities 
  • Improve dietary habits through education 
  • Increase fruit and vegetable intake 
  • Reduce risk of obesity and obesity-related diseases 
  • Improve mental health and promote relaxation 
  • Beautify neighborhoods
